Seven Parallel Contests Call for Entries for 2022 “Straight to Wuzhen” Global Internet Competition
2022-07-16
As one of the four WIC sessions, the year-long Global Internet Competition focuses on digital economy. By leveraging new technologies and business models, it’s building a bridge for Internet projects, technologies, talents and investors from worldwide.
About GIC 2019-2021
This is the fourth year of the event. The Competition premiered in 2019 collected over 500 entries from 13 countries, the next year, over 800 entries from 15 countries. Last year, more than 1,000 entries from 19 countries signed up for the event. The 50 finalists have received a total financing amount exceeding RMB 37.1 billion, with their total valuation in excess of RMB 373.5 billion.
For city-based sub-competitions, footprints were left over the last three years in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, San Francisco, Frankfurt, Tel Aviv and seven other cities around the world. Staged offline from the outset, the events were later moved partially online and have now even become “cloud road shows” in parallel fields, efforts are being made to invite quality entries as much as possible. A feature last year was the five parallel contests (e.g., AI, integrated circuit, Industrial Internet, consumer Internet, 5G applications) hosted in strategic locations such as the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Yangtze Economic Belt. Furthermore, now that leading organizations, research institutes, investment banks and top-tier firms are rounded up for the Competition, more supporting events, such as “Investors’ Matchmaking”, “Coffee with Celebrities” and seminars, came to foster cooperation and innovation of the Internet stakeholders and bridge the gap between cyberspace players. All the efforts have proved good for the global co-governance and prosperity of cyberspace and digital economy.
